When the proposal for a downtown YMCA on Site 8 of the Community Maritime Park dissolved into a hot mess, folks said what we needed was a plan.
A plan from a professional real estate company with experience in marketing municipal parcels to look at what we have at the park site, the port and the airport, give us a vision and market it.
Mayor Ashton Hayward hired CBRE to do that analysis and now they are on the payroll (for three years at 4 percent commission) to market port and airport space. The Community Maritime Park board needs to sign off on having CBRE market those parcels, and may do so within in the next several days.
The big idea -- to put a hotel on Site 8 -- is not a new thing. It is an idea that has been floated out there since the park project's infancy. Is it the plan your author wants? Read here.
